  • Rwanda at Risk of Marburg Disease

    Rwanda is at risk of attack by a deadly Marburg disease which has been confirmed in the Ugandan district of Kabale.

    Five Ugandans have already succumbed to the deadly virus.

    Kabale district of Uganda Borders Rwanda. Its also where Katuna Border crossing is located….a major interuction point between Rwanda and Uganda on a daily basis.

    Ugandan media has reported that in Kabale District, four members of the same family reportedly died of Marburg disease.

    It has also been reported that A case of yellow fever was confirmed in the northern district of Agago.

    Uganda health officials have confirmed an outbreak of deadly yellow fever, Marburg and Hepatitis B.

    Marburg virus (MARV) causes severe disease in humans and nonhuman primates in the form of viral hemorrhagic fever.

    Marburg virus was first recognized in 1967, when outbreaks of hemorrhagic fever occurred simultaneously in laboratories in Marburg and Frankfurt, Germany and in Belgrade, Yugoslavia (now Serbia).

    The first people infected had been exposed to African green monkeys or their tissues. In Marburg, the monkeys had been imported for research and to prepare polio vaccine.

  • Uganda to Respond to UN Accusations “Word by Word”

    Uganda has announced that its preparing a formal response to the United Nations leaked report that accuses Uganda and Rwanda of supporting M23 rebels, who have been fighting to overthrow DR Congo government.

    Foreign Affairs state minister, Mr Okello Oryem said on Saturday, “We do not know when the final report will be out, but we are going to respond formally to the UN Security because we think this report is malicious.”

    He said on Saturday that Uganda is waiting for the release of the final report by the UN Security Council experts to respond “word by word”.

    Oryem said,“As long as the leaders in the Great Lakes region have confidence in us, we will continue.”

    Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni,- the chairman of International Conference on Great Lakes Region (ICGLR), has chaired three heads of state summits in Kampala since June to help mediate between Kinshasa government and M23 to peacefully end the conflict in Eastern DRC.

  • Rwanda, Ethiopian Police Sign Cooperation Pact

    Rwanda and Ethiopia police forces on October 19, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which will see the two forces cooperate in various policing areas.

    The cooperation pact was signed between the Inspector General of Police, Emmanuel K. Gasana and his Ethiopian counterpart Commissioner General Workeney Gabeyehu.

    The agreement was signed at the sideline of the ongoing 14th Eastern Africa Police Chiefs Cooperation Organization (EAPCCO) meeting in Kampala, Uganda as it entered its fifth day.

    According to the pact, the two forces will cooperate mainly in “capacity building of different forms, exchange of Police information and best practices, and close collaboration in other areas that have relevance to security.”

  • Kagame: Don’t wait For Others to Solve Your Problems

    President Paul Kagame urged Rwandan students to not wait for others to solve their problems noting that those who claim to speak for Rwandans are the ones who rob them of their right to decide for themselves.

    He was addressing over 2,500 university students during Meet-the-President event held October 19, at Petit Stade in Kigali.

    He added that in order to go forward students must challenge themselves to use what they learn to move the country forward.

    “We have our own imperfections; we cannot accept imperfections from other people to double our problems” Kagame said

    “Every day I see people who have never been to Rwanda who want to decide what is good for Rwanda. Do you want to accept this?” President Kagame asked.

  • Basketball Coach Kickedout

    The Rwanda basketball Coach Nenad Amanovic has been suspended for failure to fulfill his duties as required.

    He has been suspended by the Basketball federation.

    This follows Rwanda’s humiliating defeat in Mozambique when the Under 18 team came last on the list 11 teams that competed in Maputo.

    However, the federation has not yet announced a new replacement to Amanovic.

    The Rwanda basketball Coach Nenad Amanovic has been suspended for failure to fulfill his duties as required.

    He has been suspended by the Basketball federation.

  • SOPECAF Coffee Factory Destroyed by Heavy Rain

    Heavy rains have reportedly caused heavy damage to SOPECAF coffee factory in Rubavu district.

    Nyabihu and Rubavu districts located in the volcanoe region have in the past experienced heavy rains which has caused tremendous damage to valuable property.

    Ntawukiruwabo Ramadhan the deputy Director of SOPECAF factory says, the damage caused to the factory is valued at over Frw670Million.

    Mr. Ntawukiruwabo explained that the damage will affect production.

    He calls upon government to help because the factory was in the process if paying a bank loan.

    It is also alleged that 5 houses built in the vicinity of SOPECAF factory have also been destroyed leaving families homeless.

    The most affected areas include, Rubona, Rushubi villages in Nyamyumba sector of Rubavu district.

    Residents of these areas complained that the Factory was built in the water path.
