  • Turkish Airlines to Increase Flights to Kigali

    Turkish Airlines announced that it will increase flights on the Istanbul – Kigali – Entebbe route from currently 4 weekly flights to 5 weekly flights, effective October 28.

    Subject to Rwanda government approval, Brussels Airlines also said it wants to add a fifth flight via Kigali to Nairobi beginning from December 17 to January 01, 2013.

    According to Rwanda Transport News, Rwanda recorded an estimate of 493,744 visitors in the first semester 2012 corresponding to an increase of 22% compared to 2011 in the same period.

    There was 16% increase in leisure visitors as well as an 8% increase in business visitors.

    As of 28 Oct 2012, Turkish Airlines will reduce its service between Istanbul and Dar Es Salaam (Tanzania) from daily flights to 5 weekly flights.

    Also starting on 28 Oct 2012, Turkish Airlines will operate the flight between Istanbul and Nairobi with a Boeing 737-900 instead of a Boeing 737-800.

  • Youths Encouraged to Join Cooperatives

    The ICT and Youth Minister Jean Philibert Nsengimana has urged youths to join cooperatives as a way to improve their livelihoods.

    The minister made the remarks during the official launch of “Agaciro Kanjye” (My dignity) in Ngoma District in Eastern Province.

    Minister Nsengimana reiterates that youth are the drivers of national Economic growth adding that Rwanda will achieve its objectives when youth are actively contribute to national economy.

    The Governor of Eastern Province Uwamariya Odette urged youths to work hard and think beyond looking for jobs to creating new jobs.

    The program “Agaciro Kanjye” aims at empowering youth and helping them get money without begging from parents.

  • Lightening kills one, Dozens Injured

    Lightening struck and killed one person identified as Chantal Nyiranzeyimana in Rusizi district leaving dozens injured.

    The incident happened September 30, at Nkungu Sector in Rusizi District
    Its reported that 22 people were injured in the incidence and have been admitted in critical condition at Mbirizi Hospital for medical attention.

    An eyewitness Florence Uwikunda said “Three of us were standing in the compound and when it struck, we all fell down and the next thing I knew we were in hospital”.

    Justin Wabenga the director of Mbirizi hospital said the victims were steadily recovering apart from one who was still struggling to speak.

    Jean Baptiste Nkunzwenimana a resident of Kirehe District has been arrested for distilling a local illicit brew commonly known as Kanyanga.

    Police arrested Nkunzwenimana on September 30, in Kigina sector, Kirehe district after a tip off from neighbors who saw him processing the illegal brew in his house.

    The suspect and the distilling tools are currently held at Kirehe Police station.

    Kitabi College of Conservation and Environomental Management (KCCEM) encourages girls to enrol for conservation studies adding that the courses are suitable for girls who want to contribute to National development.

    Umugwaneza Denyse is the only female who learns at Kitabi College.

    Currently, the college has 15 students from different regional countries.

    The college provides tourism courses, conservation of Environment and many other courses.

    College Authorities have said last year 20 people graduated in tourism and Biodiversity conservations.

  • Nyamagabe Roads in Bad State

    Residents of Nyamagabe District are complaining about long distance treked in search of services to the District level.

    They say lack of transport facilities and damaged roads are among the problems they face.

    One resident says:”when you want to travel from Kaduha sector to Nyamagabe District you need to sell one goat of Frw10, 000 for travel on motorcycle.”

    Residents also say that going to Kigali is nearer than going to Kirehe District. It costs Frw 5000 to Kigali.

    The Mayor of Nyamagabe District, Mugisha Philbert told IGIHE that damaged roads are a major problem for travelers.

    However, he said in collaboration with the Ministry of Infrastructure, the District has tendered for roads rehabilitation and the problem will be resolved as soon as possible.

    Currently, there is an ongoing project of construct a 30 Km road in Gasaka which will ease the journey to Nyamagabe District in 15 minutes
