  • Alpha To Perform With Tusker Project Fame Stars On Xmas

    Nga’ngalito and Judge Ian both popular in the third Tusker Project Fame (TPF3) a regional singing competition, will perform alongside Alpha Rwirangira on Christmas day at Kigali’s Car Wash restaurant.

    According to Alpha, part of the revenue obtained from the concert will be used to support orphaned children.

    “Entrance fee for adults is Frw5000 and Frw3000 for children, “I call upon people to attend in big numbers so that we can also have fun with the less fortunate and also support local musicians,” he said.

    Also there’re will be a singing competition for children.Contestants will be given points by Judge Ian known to be tough yet entertaining.

    Other local musicians with similar concerts on the same day include Kizito Mihigo, Mani Martin, Maranatha family among others.

  • Mani Martin To Hold X-mas Concert For Orphans

    Mani Martin a local musician is slated to perform a Christmas concert 23rd December at Kimironko Agahozo neighbourhood. The funds raised at the performance will be used to support orphaned children in the sector.

    Mani noted that the concert was in line with his annual agenda of visiting and having fun with the needy since during the festive season people tend to be neglected.

    “I thank God for giving me a singing talent , and one of the ways to thank him is by showing love to the vulnerable,” he said. Mani says the initiative started in 2007.

    “In this respect I postponed my album launch dubbed “Intero y’Amahoro” in order to share with the orphaned kids.”

    Most of orphans wish to attend concerts and feel entertained by musicians but they can’t make afford due to their financial strains,” he said.

    The former Gospel musician switched to secular music.

  • ‘I can’t Survive On Music Only’–Kitoko

    Patrick Kitoko Bibarwa a renowned local musician has started an events management company as a way of improving his income.

    The musician popular for his hits songs; Ikiragi (deaf), Bella and agacecuru (dream girl) has formed the company known as Ikobe in partnership with two friends. They aspire to improve the quality of events held locally.

    “I make an average amount of money in my shows and sales but its not sustainable, that’s why I have to move into other ventures that mostly address gaps in the entertainment sector, yet for a start a proper events company would improve the situation,” he advised.

    Kitoko further argues that in Rwanda most local events are organized in a substandard manner due to various factors, the most common being poor sound systems often handled by incompetent deejays and lack of appropriate organization.

    In addition, Kitoko wants to use the best. “just wait and see, soon I will start using beauty models, qualified deejays and talented masters of ceremony, trust me every show I will conduct will be worth it,”

    Meanwhile, Kitoko responded to a question sparking curiosity among his fans, below are the excerpts.

    Igihe.com: tell us more about your latest song Akabuto (seed) is it really a woman you slept with according to what the majority conclude?

    Kitoko: I can’t imagine people would go to an extent of thinking like perverts, hell no, I didn’t sleep with any woman, I wish this was the right time to unleash the real meaning of the song but since its new, let them continue to be curious since it makes them listen to the song more.

  • KIE Beauty Pageant Comes With A New Twist

    Kigali Institute of Education (KIE) beauty pageant has come up with a new twist involving deaf, dumb and the blind.

    The beauty pageant which searches for Miss and Mr KIE, will involve one dumb, deaf girl plus one blind deaf male joining the beauty race which will conclude December 23, 2011 the day the finalists will be announced and crowned.

    The new entrants include Blandine Uwimana for Miss and William Safari for Mr. KIE, and both are students at the institution.

    Speaking to Igihe.com, Uwimana pointed out that she wants to show the public that disability is not inability and that they have capacity to getting involved in different activities.

    Nodding in on what Uwimana said, Safari challenged the public saying, “All people should be aware, we were not selected to contest because of our disabilities but because we fill we have all requirements needed to contest.”

    Safari assures the public that he will come with new and unique ways of exhibiting himself in the event that will also attract popular local artistes including Kitoko, King James, Riderman, and Jay Polly among others.

  • Exiled Rwandan Musician Wants To Return Home

    Rwandan R&B singer Benjamin Mugisha alias The Ben exiled in the United States of America has expressed interests to return home after living in New York city for close to two years now.

    In a phone interview with one of the renowned musicians in the US Mike Soda who also works closely with The Ben, he admitted that he is recording songs of Rwandan context; they consist of topics related to peace and reconciliation which are contrary to his style of love songs.

    Soda said that Ben’s talent has improved since he arrived in the US and due to his electrifying performances, he has been selected to perform on a California tour but his performance is scheduled on 3rd December.

    The R&B singer has changed his stage name to his surname Mugisha meaning luck in Kinyarwanda.

    “He has often told me that he prefers his real name in order to associate himself with his mother country Rwanda, I support his idea since it brings Rwandan musicians to the spotlight who I believe through Ben’s delivery that they have talent,” he remarked.

    However, the former local singer’s move to come home has been rebuffed by some of his fans who find his passion for patriotism as a mere scapegoat.

    “Remember when they first fled with his colleague Meddy they didn’t give a clear reason to their fans, then again in order to get an asylum in the US it means you have to talk bad about your home country in order to be accommodated there.”

    “They should not waste their time coming, we now have better talented musicians like King James for instance Rider-Man, Tom-Close name them,” Said Abdi Gatete a music store owner in Nyamirambo’s Tari Nyota area.

  • Tanzanian Film Stars To Collaborate with Rwandans

    Tanzanian film actors recently launched their operations in Rwanda intending to promote the film industry in the country and to create one team that will bring together all East African film actors.

    According to Ignatius Kambarage the group Promoter said that they started by selling their movies translated in Swahili language and that the main objective will also focus on acting with Rwandans and film actors intending to promote the film industry in Rwanda.

    Some of them who will be shooting in Rwanda include; Mohamed Nurdin commonly known as Checkbud in the film and Roz Ndaura commonly known as Roz including cameraman and coach arrived in the country yesterday.

    The two film stars told igihe.com that they will first shoot a movie in Swahili language together with Rwandans very soon.

    Actors will shoot their films under the assistance of the Indian firm; Steps Entertainment Ltd.

  • Business School Organizing Beauty Pageantry

    The leading business School of Finance and Banking (SFB), is organizing beauty pageantry next month.

    At least 10 beauty queens have submitted their application to contest for the pageantry that will take place November 5, 2011 at school campus.

    The contestants include Rachel Umukunzi, Akineza-Carmen, Joyeuse Gatera, Donna Igiraneza Mahoro, Fabiola Ishimwe, Marie Ange Mudenge, Anne Marie M.Rwego, Natacha, and Oliva.

    This follows a recent beauty pageantry that took place at Kigali Health Institute.

    The winner and this year’s crowned beauty queen will take Sonia Kabuguza who took over Miss SFB 2010.

    The theme of 2011 Miss SFB states “being beautiful and having a helping heart is a special gift that everyone would like to possess”.

    During the voting process a whole week is expected to be for charity activities including helping orphans and widows in different areas of the country, explaining what a miss university does and her personality.

    This event was organized by the school of Finance and banking Student’s Association together with the management of the university.

  • Kenyan Traditional Artist To Perfom in Kigali

    Tony Nyadundo a musician from Kenya is slated to perform the Ohangla a traditional style of music by the Kenyan luo tribe tommorow at Macadamia restaurant.

    Commonly refered to as “King of Ohangla” Nyadundo is arriving in Kigali tonight.He will be backed by the Ohangla Boys band.

    The event is organized by both Dj Nano and Dj Ken, the two are renowned to spearheading the EAC integration process through entertainment.

  • Heavy Weight Ladies In Fashion Show

    Contrary to the common modeling or beauty pageants where the public and judges are obsessed with tall and slim idols, this time around heavy weight ladies will be modeling in the first ever big ladies fashion show.

    It is not common in the whole world to have such kind of shows except a few that took place in developed countries but also one that took place in Burkina Faso’s capital Ouagadougou in 2003.

    Rwanda’s gospel artist Aline Gahongayire the architect behind the show has told igihe.com that the fashion show is scheduled to take place Novermber 6, at Serena Hotel in Kigali city.

    “Big sized people should be given value and be attracted to get involved in different activities like others,” Gahongayire said.

    Gahongayire says that at many cases big women or girls are marginalized and some of them are dumped by their husbands who accuse them of being fat.

    She adds that this has created inferiority complex among them denying them a right to associate with others freely in their respective communities.

    According to Gahongayire, the show dubbed ‘plus size fashion show’ will showcase big ladies’ own made attires.

    At least 30 big girls between 80kgs and 180kgs which is the required range for the entry have confirmed their participation in the exciting modeling.

    Gahongayire himself 99kgs, said the show is organized alongside with the Nyakatsi project where at least 20% of the money generated will help those still living in grass-thatched houses (Nyakatsi).

  • Tanzanian Artist Comes To Support Jay Polly

    A Bongo Flavor hip hop artist from Tanzania Geez Mabovu is in the country to support Jay Polly’s Iwacu album launch this Friday at Petit Stade Remera.

    Geez Mabovu says, Rwandan Hip Hop is growing at the highest level compared to past years where Rwandans used to like Bongo Flavor a Tanzanian leading beat in East Africa.

    Speaking to igihe.com, Geez Mabovu said Jay Polly’s launch will prove that, Africa especially East Africa, can do Hip Hop and prove the good relations between Hip Hop artists.

    The Mtoto wa Kiume fame singer is his second time in Rwanda having came for the first time to feature with Back-T and Pacson, the local journalists and hip hop artists.

    Mabovu says, he liked the hospitality his colleagues (artists) shown him in a small time they managed to sit and have a drink with them in Kigali happening places.

    Apart from Geez Mabovu, T-max a Burundian hip hop artist is soon coming for Iwacu album by Jay Polly as someone he eyes for his expansion to Burundi.

    This concert will bring together most popular artists in Rwanda like Diplomat, Danny, Bably, Pacson, Back-T, and P-Fla, but in other genres there will be Kamichi, Just Family, Knowless, Urban Boyz, Dream Boyz, Uncle Austin, Tom Close, Jack-B and King James.
