Uganda Opposition Leader Arrested

Uganda Police have arrested Forum for Democratic Change leader, Dr. Kizza Besigye being held at the Central Police Station in Kampala city .

Local media reported that Besigye was arrested Monday in downtown Kampala in his attempt to address vendors at a city market.

The arrest of the FDC politician comes in the wake of a move by Police to block some members of the opposition from holding planned rallies around Kampala city.

As Besigye planned to hold a rally at the Constitutional Square, Kampala mayor Erias Lukwago intended to tour the New Taxi Park.

The two political leaders who command a huge following have since been arrested.
